Inter Miami CF is set to participate in Group East 3 alongside Liga MX sides Club Tigres and Club Puebla for the Leagues Cup 2024, as Major League Soccer (MLS) and Liga MX have announced the format and groups for the second edition of this international soccer competition. The tournament features all 47 clubs from Canada, Mexico, and the United States, with defending champions Inter Miami CF leading the charge.

Scheduled from July 26 to August 25, 2024, the month-long tournament promises to showcase historic and emerging North American club rivalries. Last year, Inter Miami claimed the 2023 Leagues Cup title, securing a direct spot in the Round of 16 of the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup.

Leagues Cup 2024, to be held in the United States and Canada, will determine three qualifiers for the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup, where the regional winner will represent the continent at the FIFA Club World Cup. This innovative tournament highlights the best talents in North American soccer and the intensity of the competition.

Clubs, excluding the two league champions, are categorized into three tiers based on the Leagues Cup Ranking (1-15, 16-30, 31-45), forming 15 groups of three clubs each. The tournament will be played in two regions: East and West, with seven groups in the East and eight groups in the West, ensuring regionalized travel for all participants. Like the 2023 format, both Liga MX and MLS Cup champions—Club America and Columbus Crew, respectively—receive automatic byes to the Round of 32.

Liga MX Champion and the top three ranked Liga MX clubs will enjoy hub privileges, minimizing travel by playing in pre-determined venues as the home team, based on their performance in the 2023 Apertura and Clausura seasons.

This revamped format, based on the Leagues Cup Ranking, was a collaborative effort of the Leagues Cup Organizing Committee, representing Leagues Cup, MLS, and Liga MX leadership, emphasizing regular season results and geographical considerations while incorporating lessons learned from 2023.

Knockout Rounds

After the Group Stage, the advancing 30 teams, along with the Liga MX and MLS cup champions, will compete in single-game elimination Knockout Rounds, starting with the Round of 32, followed by Round of 16 and Quarterfinals. The tournament culminates with the Semifinals, Third Place, and Final matches, determining the three qualified clubs for the Concacaf Champions Cup.

No tie

Leagues Cup maintains its No Ties format, awarding one point to each team in case of a tie after 90 minutes. The winner of the subsequent penalty shootout earns an additional point. Regulation wins count as three points, with penalty kicks deciding drawn games.
